吉華K校─“環保尖兵”拯救地球從校園開始

一名父親來到吉華K校,為孩子送愛心點心,小孩子望父親手里用保麗龍盛裝的食物,堅決的告訴父親:“我的學校內不允許使用保麗龍,爸爸你把東西拿回去吧!”父親先是一楞,可是孩子堅定的眼神,讓父親從孩子身上學習到環保教育,於是這名父親以坦然的心把保麗龍帶出校園。

這段真實的故事,反映“環保教育從小孩開始,再讓小孩教育更多大人”,效率會事半功倍。

吉華K校在2008年初搬遷到豐富園新校舍後,董家教和校方決定全新出發,在校內開始推行環保運動,並訓練出一批學生出任“環保尖兵”,每班學生都有一名代表,每天把班上收集的紙張、紙屑在休息課時送到食堂側邊的環保站,小孩自己把再循環垃圾分類。

小孩如果環保做得好,“環保尖兵”就會發出環保書籤獎勵,盡責的環保尖兵,把學校的環保工作做得越來越好。

校長雷健聰對《大北馬》說,校園環保特色是每間教室都沒有垃圾桶,只有環保箱,使到每班一張紙都沒有。只有真的不能循環的垃圾才被丟進垃圾桶,全校四層樓建築物只有約10個垃圾桶,遠遠的設在走廊盡頭,全校垃圾量因此很少。

“環保箱內的環保紙張出售後,所獲收入捐到學生福利組,協助家庭面對困境的學生。”

第一副校長楊鳳珍和第二副校長王月真回顧一年前開始推行校園環保時,過程並不容易,起初校方通過新生迎新日提供環保講座會,先教導學生了解環保利弊,學生再從中教育家長。

開始階段仍有家長會帶保麗龍來,可是在耳濡目染下慢慢減少至沒有。食堂業者也根據指示用可洗的盤子,少用塑膠袋。

全體教師也獲董家教贈送全套環保餐盒,教師以身作則,一起響應環保,為孩子們樹立好榜樣。

■董家教和師生一起做酵素

今年,董家教和全體師生一起在學校內做環保酵素,全校學生都帶果皮來,一口氣合力做了十多桶酵素。

校方用了2周時間講解酵素制作,這些酵素用途廣泛,用來為草場施肥,種植花草樹木。一名董事定期報效酵素給食堂業者使用以抹地和桌子,讓小孩洗手。校方甚至有意在11月的義賣會推動酵素活動。

有外來團體來到這座環保校園訪問,或商借禮堂給外來團體辦活動時,董家教成員也會順便教育外來者環保意識,落實環保大家一起做的理念,甚至來訪的嘉賓吃完東西後,也被要求把餐具放回指定處,為學生樹立好榜樣。

■道德禮儀

雷健聰說,學校每年都舉行一次道德周,向學生及家長籌募慈善捐款,把錢捐給學校福利組幫助有需要的家庭,包括最近一名家長在車禍受傷,校方也及時撥出捐款雪中送炭。

除此,在推動人文教育方面,校方也安排學生去參觀洗腎中心、殘障、痙攣兒童中心、帶動孩子關愛社會弱勢,並鼓勵他們捐獻進行慈善活動。

老師也在每一班播映禮儀教導課,引導孩子禮儀表現,以及教導協助做家務,帶動家長醒覺禮儀須從小做起。

每一天休息課後,校方會抽出15分鐘,為孩子輪流導讀弟子規、英文和國語詩歌朗誦。每個早上都全校學生集體晨操,強身健體解除壓力,也從中訓練孩子們提高紀律。

■閱讀角落
校方貼心的在食堂旁,設立閱讀角落,讓家長等候孩子時有時間閱讀,其中很多是親子刊物。

在學校底樓的樓梯間,另設小孩閱讀角落,孩子們可以在課餘消磨時間,響應書香世界。

■推動人文科技環保

董家教認為科技對學校重要,聘請一個全職電腦老師教導教師電腦知識。

雷健聰說,校方將設立吉華K校網站,會配合吉華校友會網站進行連接,目標是讓家長和董家教成員,未來可在網上交流,了解學校和學生情況。

“我們也逐步落實無紙張通訊,全部資料都用電郵發送。”

Eat Less Rice!

The human body was never meant to consume rice! You see, our genes have hardly changed in more than 30,000 years. However, our food choices and lifestyle have changed dramatically. The caveman would hardly recognise our food or way of life.

Caveman food was never cooked as fire was not yet tamed. Thus, he ate only those foods that you can eat without treatment with or by fire. He ate fruits, vegetables, fish (sushi anyone?), eggs, nuts and meat. Yes, even meat! You can even eat meat raw if you were starving in the forest. You have the necessary enzymes to digest meat.

However, rice, like wheat and corn, cannot be eaten raw. It must be cooked. Even if you were starving in the desert, you cannot eat rice in the raw form. This is because we do not have the system of enzymes to break rice down. You were never meant to eat rice. To make matters worse, you not only eat rice, but also make it the bulk of your food.

In some parts of Asia , rice forms up to 85% of the plate. Even if you take rice, keep it to a minimum. Remember, it is only for your tongue - not your body. Actually, rice and other grains like wheat and corn are actually worse than sugar. There are many reasons:

Rice becomes sugar - lots of it!
This is a fact that no nutritionist can deny: rice is chemically no different from sugar.. One bowl of cooked rice is the caloric equal of 10 teaspoons of sugar. This does not matter whether it is white, brown or herbal rice. Brown rice is richer in fibre, some B vitamins and minerals but it is still the caloric equal of 10 teaspoons of sugar. To get the same 10 teaspoons of sugar, you need to consume lots of kangkong-10 bowls of it.

Rice is digested to become sugar.
Rice cannot be digested before it is thoroughly cooked. However, when thoroughly cooked, it becomes sugar and spikes circulating blood sugar within half an hour-almost as quickly as it would if you took a sugar candy. Rice is very low in the 'rainbow of anti-oxidants. '

This complete anti-oxidant rainbow is necessary for the effective and safe utilisation of sugar. Fruits come with a sugar called fructose. However, they are not empty calories as the fruit is packed with a whole host of other nutrients that help its proper assimilation and digestion.

Rice has no fibre.
The fibre of the kangkong fills you up long before your blood sugar spikes. This is because the fibre bulks and fills up your stomach. Since white rice has no fibre, you end up eating lots of 'calorie dense' food before you get filled up. Brown rice has more fibre but still the same amount of sugar.

Rice is tasteless-sugar is sweet.
There is only so much that you can eat at one sitting. How many teaspoons of sugar can you eat before you feel like throwing up? Could you imagine eating 10 teaspoons of sugar in one seating?

Rice is always the main part of the meal.
While sugar may fill your dessert or sweeten your coffee, it will never be the main part of any meal. You could eat maybe two to three teaspoons of sugar at one meal. However, you could easily eat the equal value of two to three bowls (20-30 teaspoons) of sugar in one meal. I am always amused when I see someone eat sometimes five bowls of rice (equals 50 teaspoons of sugar) and then asks for tea tarik kurang manis!

There is no real 'built in' mechanism for us to prevent overeating of rice:
How much kangkong can you eat?
How much fried chicken can you eat?
How much steamed fish can you eat?
Think about that!

In one seating, you cannot take lots of chicken, fish or cucumber, but you can take lots of rice. Eating rice causes you to eat more salt. As rice is tasteless, you tend to consume more salt-another villain when it comes to high blood pressure. You tend to take more curry that has salt to help flavor rice. We also tend to consume more ketchup and soy sauce which are also rich in salt.

Eating rice causes you to drink less water.
The more rice you eat, the less water you will drink as there is no mechanism to prevent the overeating of rice. Rice, wheat and corn come hidden in our daily food. As rice is tasteless, it tends to end up in other foods that substitute rice like rice flour, noodles and bread. We tend to eat the hidden forms which still get digested into sugar.

Rice, even when cooked, is difficult to digest.
Can't eat raw rice? Try eating rice half cooked. Contrary to popular belief, rice is very difficult to digest. It is 'heavy stuff'. If you have problems with digestion, try skippingrice for a few days. You will be amazed at how the problem will just go away.

Rice prevents the absorption of several vitamins and minerals.
Rice when taken in bulk will reduce the absorption of vital nutrients like zinc, iron and the B vitamins.

Are you a rice addict? Going rice-less may not be easy but you can go rice-less.

Eating less rice could be lot easier than you think.

Here are some strategies that you can pursue in your quest to eat less rice:
Eat less rice-cut your rice by half.
Barry Sears, author of the Zone Diet, advises 'eating rice like spice'. Instead, increase your fruits and vegetables. Take more lean meats and fish. You can even take more eggs and nuts.

Have 'riceless' meals.Take no rice or wheat at say, breakfast. Go for eggs instead.

Go on 'riceless' days.

Go 'western' once a week.

Take no rice and breads for one day every week.That can't be too difficult.

Appreciate the richness of your food. Go for taste, colours and smells. Make eating a culinary delight. Enjoy your food in the original flavours.Avoid the salt shaker or ketchup.You will automatically eat less rice.

Eat your fruit dessert before (Yes! No printing error) your meals.The fibre rich fruits will 'bulk up' in your stomach. Thus, you will eat less rice and more fruits.It's your life. Decide what you want to eat! But eat less rice!

周末絮语

大家好:

"禾浪中央"维持了一年多了, 我看到"留言"里有人提起这部落格的宗旨目的等等, 也有人认为"禾"已乖离了方向而感到痛心等等.

我读了深感欣慰, 因为至少还有成员/老师还在留意这个"家", 就是这股力量一直让我坚持下去.

说到"禾"的宗旨方向, 其实我们管家都很明了, "禾"应该是报道关于母校和成员的讯息的总站, 刊贴母校的工作还不难, 但对于其他成员的讯息, 这就要靠大家了.

我们总管家是义务处理这个交流平台, 我们还有自己的职业家庭要照顾, 我们需要大家的合心协力来配合才可以达到"禾"的真正宗旨与目标. 只可惜, 这一年来我们都未能实现这种期待, 各成员都想知道大家的近况, 但却无法配合, 我们身为管家的也无能为力啊!

因此我们把"禾"的宗旨放宽到包容其他与KH7883没有相关的讯息, 这样的话这个"园地"就不会荒芜太久, 只要是可让大家有所思考,学习和交流的, 我们都允许刊贴.

我们管家不可能放下工作家庭全力来寻集成员的近况来报道啊! 我们和大家一样需要赚钱养家, 关心孩子和亲人, 对这个"家", 我们可以做的就是现在这个样子了. 如果有人觉得我们做的不足不够好, 我在这里说声"对不起", 也非常期待其他人来接棒, 也许换另一班管理层可能会有不同的新气象, 办得更出色完美.

这一年来, 我们对所付出的时间和精神真的没要求什么回报, 我们自愿承担当然就要付出无所求, 但至少我们需要成员的谅解, 这样的要求很过分吗?

Ghandhism - A Must read - POWER OF NON-VIOLENCE

Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and founder of theM.K.Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, in his June 9 lecture at the University of Puerto Rico, shared the following story:

I was 16 years old and living with my parents at the institute my grandfather had founded 18 miles outside of Durban , South Africa , in the middle of the sugarplantations. We were deep in the country and had no neighbors, so my two sisters and I would always look forward to going to town to visit friends or go to the movies.

One day, my father asked me to drive him to town for an all-day conference, and I jumped at the chance. Since I was going to town, my mother gave me a list of groceries she needed and, since I had all day in town, my father asked me to take care of several pending chores, such as getting the car serviced.

When I dropped my father off that morning, he said, "I will meet youhere at 5:00 p.m., and we will go home together.."

After hurriedly completing my chores, I went straight to the nearest movie theatre. I got so engrossed in a John Wayne double-feature that I forgot the time. It was 5:30 before I remembered.

By the time I ran to the garage and got the car and hurried to where my father was waiting for me, it was almost 6:00.

He anxiously asked me, "Why were you late?"
I was so ashamed of telling him I was watching a John Wayne western movie that I said, "The car wasn't ready, so I had to wait," not realizing that he had already called the garage.

When he caught me in the lie, he said: "There's something wrong in the way I brought you up that didn't give you the confidence to tell me the truth. In order to figure out where I went wrong with you, I'm going to walk home 18 miles and think about it."

So, dressed in his suit and dress shoes, he began to walk home in the dark on mostly unpaved, unlit roads. I couldn't leave him, so for five-and-a-half hours I drove behind him,watching my father go through this agony for a stupid lie that I uttered.

I decided then and there that I was never going to lie again.

I often think about that episode and wonder, if he had punished me the way we punish our children, whether I would have learned alesson at all. I don't think so. I would have suffered the punishment and gone on doing the same thing. But this single non-violent action was so powerful that it is still as if it happened yesterday.

That is the power of non-violence!

周末絮语


大家好:


这个星期不得不谈谈关于MJ.

我们的这一代, 坦白说, 谁不认识MJ.

在我们人生的某个阶段, 谁不回哼几句MJ的歌?

让人惊叹的舞步, 叫人无法摹仿的舞姿, MJ, 真的是独一无二的.

现在他走了, 我相信也没有人可以替代他的位置.

在娱乐界, MJ的成就是无法超越的, 但是若从各方面把他看成一个人来评论, 评价就见仁见智了.

法国媒介对MJ的评价虽然苛刻而稍微偏激, 但这几年来MJ形象的转变, 怪异的举止, 加上各类私人与公事的官司, 他们的论点也不虚假.

其实这一些些都是本身的自由和私事, 如果是我们的话人家才懒得理你, 但现在是MJ, 一切就不一样了.

当一个人成为大众人物(PUBLIC FIGURE)时, 好象MJ, 他就自然的成为一种典范, 崇拜和追随者往往由于被其魅力影响深远而无法辨别真假和是非, 无论自己的偶像做得对不对, 他们都会跟从, 都会一股脑儿的栽下去而无法自拔.

这是很危险的.

MJ的功过, 至今还是一个很争论性的课题, 但他的离去的确是乐坛的一大损失, 也是让许多人深深怀念的.

因为这世上, 不可能会有第二个MICHAEL JACKSON........

另一批校友的回校日

大家好:

跟着我们去年534重聚日兼回校日, 今年另一批校友也举办了一个回校日, 不只种了十四棵树, 还为母校筹获一万八千元, 当着买电脑基金. 以下转载此项活动的报道:

2008年劳动节期间,吉华国中78~83年的毕业生,相约了重聚在阔别了25年的母校。学长们用了一年的时间筹备这次的重聚,也走访了很多已经退休的校长、老师们。除了纯粹的相聚、回校,学长们也成立了一个KH7883杰出奖,每年定时的在学校的颁奖日颁发给表现优异的学生。

在差不多同一时间,毕业于1988年的学长们也正酝酿着筹办一个回校日,而经过了几个月的准备工作,毕业了21年后“我们。重逢”终于就发生在刚过的元首诞辰的周末。

话说6月6日的晚上,学长们在米都陇西堂安排了一场重聚及谢师宴。宴会主持人,特地找校服穿来撑场,嗯。。。毕竟也毕业21年了,穿起校服来,是有那么的一点搞笑。
最令我感动的是学长们找出了当年那堆被埋没了的绝对Superstar们,高唱“海阔天空”。可能现在的孩子已经没听“海阔天空”了,但是这首歌却是学长们那时的饮歌(也是我们那时候的饮歌啊!),所以唱起来的感觉肯定就不一样了。这点,也就只有学长们才能深刻体会了。就像以后的校友重聚时,可能会选唱“我爱台妹”、“千里之外”为他们的饮歌这样。


完整的“MTV”可以在这里看到。令我笑不出声的地方是,当歌曲来到一半时,出现在荧幕前的老师们的画面。想想,我们毕业后,又何曾回过学校跟老师说声“对不起、谢谢你”呢?有时有想过趁假期回去见见老师,跟老师说声简单的谢谢,但是这么一想也想了十四年却还没有做过。真是惭愧啊!

隔天星期日的早上,学长们回到母校来,为的主要是在校园内种植14棵树。大家看到的Mr. Loh老师已经晋升为副校长了。

在众多学长当中,我只认识涂学长,及过后有幸认识到写得一手好文笔的杨微屏学姐。还有一个全场摄影师杜英杰学兄。他们是这一次“我们。重逢”的幕后功臣之一。

那14棵树如今绑着红丝带笔挺的站立在礼堂旁边的草场。大家有空可以去看看。学校在短短一年内,也其实做了蛮多的变化。年尾,崭新的大礼堂将会在校园后面动工了。

我没有全程跟随“我们。重逢”的节目,不过详细的报导,大家可以在校友会网站一睹一二
2011年将是吉华国中迈向100周年大喜庆。校友会正如火如荼的筹备着“大重聚”,希望所有校友都能一一回校看看。老实说,要是校友们都在同一天回校的话,米都的交通大概会面对一时的小堵塞,港口路那条路就大堵塞了。无论如何,让我们一起期待2011年的“大家。重逢”。

周末絮语

大家好:

六月过去了,一年又过了一半,时间真的飞逝般溜走,走了再也不会回头。
曾经回顾过去的半年里自己做了什么吗?
做了什么值得自己怀念的吗?或是叫人留念的吗?
活着,我们都不停的在做许多许多事情,一大半是自己的事,也有一些是别人的事。
但这世界上有些人是在为很多其他人做事,做一些自己也许不会留念的事,但切是让许多人无法忘记的事。
而叫人怀念的事通常都事美好的记忆。
所以我们要做只是自己留念的事,还是其他人怀念的事?
答案就由自己决定吧!

六月是一个叫人不想留念的季节。
振发同学永远离开我们,年轻的岁月霍然而止;还有我们不会不认识的michael jackson,悲剧性地结束他的一生;当然还有八十年代的性感影星,farrah fawcett, 一位勇敢的抗癌战士。
他们都会在某些人的生命里留下一些记忆,只是现在他们已不在人间,我们也应该慢慢的把他们忘记,把更多的爱留给还在世的亲人, 朋友甚至那些需要爱的人。
让我们现在就开始去爱吧,试试对自己的父母,人生伴侣,孩子甚至好友,说:“我爱你!”
因为爱 - 是一切问题的答案。
